RSSowl crash problem fixed

Hey there you guys!

How are you doing today? I hope you are fine and well!
If you are using RSSOWL as much as I am then you will find this really really useful.

It works smooth most of the time. But when it crashes. It crashes big!

I tried everything I could think of to make it work again:
Like installing / Un-installing different Java machines
Uninstalling the program. Clean reinstall
restarting many times. But nothing of that worked!

How to make it work again. Well. We have to understand the problem first. This problem happens with a power failure. The power failure courrpts the configuration file of RSSowl. Resulting the error message: “java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException” whenever clicking on a post or a feed!
The steps to fix it are:
navigate to: C:/users/”username”/.rssowl/

Delete the backup.opml
Copy the backup_weekly.opml
Paste it in the same folder, you will have backup_weekly.opml(2)

Rename it to backup.opml

When you open the program again. the problem is gone! I hope you liked this post and found it useful! Did this problem ever happen to you? How often does it happen?

Thanks for reading the post. If you like it then share it with your friends and give kudos. Don’t forget to comment below 🙂

Backup your installed Android apps as .Apk files

Hey there you guys. How are you today? Today I’m going to be talking about backing up Android applications to your computer. It’s very simple and really handy!
This way you can create a personal backup of your application

I’m going to be using a software called Myphone Backup. Which comes in two parts: Android app. And Windows installation.
It’s a software used to manage your phone over a connection. And backup contents. I used version 1.8.3 for the tutorial while the links on the site are the latest 1.8.6
It’s freeware, if you like it then consider posting a donation to support the development!
Install the app on your phone and the software on your computer.
Now open the app on your mobile and select the way to connect. Let’s use Wifi.

After installing it. Go to the start menu and type” Myphone” to have it appear in the search results.

Then let’s run the computer software. And connect to the phone by going to File Connect. Or pressing F2.

After connecting to the phone go to the pane files. Then choose apps.
Hide system apps for safety.
You can install apps via side loading by pressing upload, save them by pressing download,  And many other useful functions!

From here you can backup the applications one by one. Click on the desired app and select download.

It will prompt you to select a location to save it. Wait a little, and the app is saved to your computer in .apk form

Wait for the progress to finish. And there you have it!

The most common way for this method to fail is the connection between the computer and the phone. So make sure you do it properly. And choose Android from the settings.
I hope you enjoyed this post! Please comment below and let me know what you think?
Do you have an easier way to backup apps. Let me know it 🙂

Windows 10 the last Windows to be produced? My take on it inside

Hey there you guys. I hope you are having a good day
As I try to pace myself and post only once a day. But news like this make me break my rules. As I continue to bring the latest update about Windows 10

“Windows to stop producing Windows versions”!! Source
After we confirmed the bold statement. Let’s take a look at what it means?

If you thought that Windows XP overstayed it’s welcome.Think again!! after XP there was Vista, 7 and of course Windows 8. And it’s support finally ended in April of 2014. Windows 10 is here to stay apparently. With the company stating that There won’t be a Windows 11. According to the statement. Windows is pushing a new business model that has me feeling my pocket already! What do we know so far is that Windows 10 will be free for all as an update for one year. And that your license has to be genuine. And how the updates will be delivered. It’s supposed to come sometime this year.
Question is:

How will Microsoft make it’s money if it doesn’t force us to upgrade every three years? (Opinion piece)

I have some speculations based on what Microsoft has released so far.

    1. Users who will install Windows 10 fresh will have to pay a full license fee.
    2. Users who have pirated versions of Windows will have to pay a full license fee to remove version restrictions.
    3. Users who want to have the free upgrade will have to buy a license (if not already genuine) of an older version: 7, 8 etc ..
    4. Upgrades will not be free (You will pay for updates and upgrades).
    5. I am sensing a none Microsoft block (As in Surface tablets) You have to run genuine Microsoft software, or you are stuck with an over priced child-pad!! (Confirmation needed on the Surface tablet bit).
    6. Perhaps do what Adobe does with the creative cloud and what Microsoft is already doing with Office356.
    7. I think Windows will be more Xbox Live! (Pay wise of course)!!

I believe that Microsoft will gain a lot more than selling standalone versions of it’s software, things like:

        1. Limits Piracy. The new licensing system makes it more difficult for pirates to “crack” versions as it’s upgraded regularly.
        2. More money
Some people like to pay 20$ a month rather than 300$ at once.
        3. More focused development.
Instead of coming up with a marketing scheme every 2-3 years. They get to focus on one system. While still making money out of it.
        4. Easier support.
When enough people migrate to Windows10. Support will be so much easier.
As I said. These points are of my current perspective based on the information I have now! And my final verdict is to wait until Microsoft unveils it’s plans!
Have a lovely day dear fans. Let me know what you have to say in the comments section below!

Atom.io v1 Atom facts + 1 year of open source!

Hey there you guys. I hope you are doing well on this fine day

Atom celebrated it’s first year as an open source on the 6th of May by releasing an info-graphic. It contains facts and numbers that are truly interesting!!

          Interesting facts

I never would have guessed that most Atom users were Mac users! Or that it has been downloaded 750.000 times!! for full info click this post over here.

          Great read

As I was browsing the Atom blog I came across this rather interesting announcement: That the support for deprecated API’s will end on June 1st.
(Sounds really exciting huh? No! Not really!) but the other part of the announcement is what really matters. Announcing that V1.0 milestone will be released sometime later that month (June).
Atom v1.0 will be released in June. That’s according to the official atom blog.

          Future hopes

I’m hoping that update brings the removal of the file size restriction. Which has been a real drawback for Atom. I’m also expecting some under the hood improvements. I hope they work the Arabic language problem (it’s shown as scrabble). And maybe the icon. I don’t like it very much :p. Other than that I’m quite happy with the program’s features and performance (on Linux! Of course) Windows boot is almost as long as the Windows boot itself!!

          Promised bug fixes

They have published a list of bug fixes to include in the 1.0 milestone. Some of them as you might have guessed were boot time and file size restriction. The rest can be checked from here.
Let’s see if the Atom team can pull it together. I wasn’t in favor of comparing them to industry titans as I kept saying it’s in Beta. But now the play time is over!

          Final words

I really wish them the best. As they put together what could impact the coding world!
What do you expect out of V1.0 of Atom? Are you excited as I am? Please let me know in the comments section below. Don’t forget to give Kudos. Share this post and help the blog grow! Have a lovely day 😀
