Yesterday Battle for Wesnoth has released it’s quarterly update. Being one of the most regular open source games out there when it comes to updates. But this update brings a sad closure to a well loved series.
As per tweets posted on the official Battle for Wesnoth account this will be the last release of the 1.14.x series with 1.16 to be released in October this year.
Unless new critical bugs affecting 1.14.x are discovered before 1.16.0 is released, this is slated to be the last 1.14.x update after over three years. 1.16.0 is expected to be out by the end of October this year.
We hope you are as excited as we are for the future of Wesnoth!

Why does this matter to me?
As a user I stuck to 1.14.x as the stable branch and avoided the 1.15.x branch despite being more regularly updated and albeit lucrative to try out fearing game breaking bugs.
Does that mean that the 1.15.x is the stable branch now?
Final words
A huge milestone charted by a wonderful game. I deem it to be one of the best open source games on the market in terms of polish and support.
