War for Diamonds (Download)

Another game that went down with stammel’s website is War for Diamonds. Which is a jewel puzzle with strategic elements.

Game premise

The game is fairly simple. Using the empty hexa shape in the middle drag shapes to clear batches of four gems of the same color before the timer (red bar) reaches 0.

Left click moves around, right click clears.

I just wanted to re-upload the game since it vanished from the world wide web. Since most websites just link to stammel’s site and that site is gone. Or comes as part of CD and DVD compilations that no longer exist online.

It’s very frustrating that someone would opt to destroy his legacy like this. The game is fun and is a shame that it was this close to being gone from the web for good.

You can download the game from here. It’s a 300KB that could pass a few minutes.

Game of the week presents: Brawlhalla 3.20

This is a game that I discovered very recently (despite it being released over 6 years ago) and by pure coincidence. An action fighting game that is a twist of the “Super Smash Bros” series of games.

The goal is very simple: Knock your foes off the platform 3 times to win.

Important notice

My review is kept strictly to the offline 3.20 version. I didn’t play online against real people or entered contests. I think you need to add it to your steam library to do that, and since this is a side-loaded game. Those features are not available.

Game pros

1. Has an immediate pick up and play appeal. No complex story or learning needed. I didn’t play a whole lot of it but I immediately grasped the basics, and the rest is sure to follow!
2. A colorful roaster of characters. With a lot of customization options. Some are from fantasy tropes like Ogres, so if you played other games like Wesnoth. You’ll feel right at home with this one. With nearly 40 characters to choose from, each with their own stats and special weapons.

3. Good looking graphics and animations.
4. The game has a huge following online and recently reached 40 million active players online according to Brawlhalla’s own post on their blog.
5. Download size is small (sadly this still matters here in 2020, sigh..). 255 Mbs to be exact.
6. Free to play. That’s the coolest part.

Game cons

This version is for Windows only. It could be played on Wine for Linux systems but native game play is always better.

Top tip: Use a game pad, it is much more fun that way.

Download

The game can be downloaded from this link. It’s compressed as a .7z for optimal compression. Most archiving software should be able to extract it. But if you face any problems, download 7zip from this link.

Final words

This was the latest installment of Game of the Week. Hopefully you enjoyed this bit. Let me know what do you think in the comments section below, and I’ll catch you in the next one.

Rocks and diamonds 4.2 release and download + a sister game!

In this week’s segment of game of the week I’m taking you back to a game I presented in 2017. Rocks and diamonds is a game that encapsulates the retro puzzle genre and is a must have for any retro gamer.

The main menu of Rocks and Diamonds

Last week the latest installment was released by creator: Holger Schemel and it has been a highly anticipated release for a number of reasons:

Version 4.2 improvements

  • There has only been one release throughout 2020 prior to this version.
  • The game is built around a new game engine (the old one dating back to 2009!).
  • Latest version of SDL (sound library used in a lot of games).
  • X64 builds for windows.
  • A plethora of bug fixes and improvements for version 4.2 Feel free to read the full list from here.
Please note that there was a bug fix after this extended list, but this post is about the major release. I recommend downloading the latest version of course.

R’n’D jue II (The sister game)

There is another game built around the R’n’D concept. It’s called R’n’D jue II and it’s a fresh take on the classic approach of R’n’D with improved graphics and presentation. I recommend having both versions, because why not?

You can see the fresh style of graphics and gameplay in this screenshot.

Final words

I did contact the developer asking about the game about a month ago and he did promise that the game will be out soon. He was glad that his games reached Libya and had no idea that anyone there knew or appreciated his creations. He was also kind enough to ask about my condition after being displaced, because he did read that on my blog.
Thank you Mr. Schemel for this excellent game and being a kind human being.
