Well I will tell you how so you don’t do the same mistakes I did.

Virtual computing is all about installing operating systems in a fail safe environment. Where the damages don’t affect the computer and stay in the “machine”.

If you ever played an emulated game, then you have somewhat of an idea.

It’s actually very simple and used widely, let’s take a look at what is a virtual machine?
A virtual machine is like having a computer in side of a computer, the computer running the machine is the “Host” and the installation of the system inside is called “Guest”. For example you are running Windows and feel like trying Linux but you are too afraid of the live mode or simply unaware of it. So you use a virtual machine, or the other way around.

A virtual machine expands your computers use and makes better use of the resources at hand.
You can have multiple systems working on the same machine, without damage to your main system what so ever! The possibilities are endless!!
You can have a virtual machine for testing and reviewing software without overloading your main computer or risking it. Or you can install heavy resource programs while keeping your main system light and free. Stuff for learning or preparing for a certificate exam, and the list goes on and on!
That all seems great doesn’t it? It’s better even than the dual boot thing I have going on (almost), where do I get a system like that?
There are many softwares that can create and manage virtual machines.

I use Oracle VM VirtualBox, it’s really easy to use, cross platform and free.
Over the next few days I’ll be posting about installing and making VirtualBox work on your computer.

I hope you enjoyed this light intro to the concept, the next posts will be about installing and making the VM work like it should.
Have a lovely day 🙂
