FDM 5.1 released, Ubuntu version up for vote?

I’ve blogged about FDM in this blog before, being the best free download manager, and the alternative for IDM, and that it could replace uTorrent on your computer (and if you are using uTorrent, please remove it, it’s malicious!)< and the continue broken downloads using mirrors even if the server doesn’t support it!

FDM 5.1 Interface

It has been redesigned into a more streamlined UI and they made the configuration is easier to use.
One of the biggest changes noted is the addition of a mac version and dropping the support for Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Since the addition of a Mac version, I wondered, why not an Ubuntu version? So I e-mailed the contact e-mail, and this is the response they gave me:

Hello!
Thank you for your feedback.

Our team is planning to release FDM5 for Linux OS, still, not in the nearest future though. We’ll inform all our users. Please keep up with the news on our blog.

I will be following them closely for you!

That means that FDM is one step away from being truly cross platform after being stuck in the Windows ecosystem for years!

Those are fantastic news! The new version is so awesome, Mac addition is lovely, and I can’t wait to see how does it look on Ubuntu, Will it make it in time for Ubuntu 16.04?

Update 2

“Dear Muaad,
Unfortunately, we are not planning to release a Linux build until a stable release for Mac OS X & Windows is out.
However, we are doing our best to make sure that our source code is compilable under Linux to the extent that it will not be too big an issue when we get to it.”

Update 3:
FDM has published a poll for future features, Linux is one of them! So vote Linux!!

Until this wait is over, be more than welcome to use uGet, it’s that good!

CodeLobsterPHP Edition 5.8 is out, supports Arabic!

CodeLobsterPHP Edition continues it’s active development cycle by launching version 5.8 which brings many improvements to the  IDE, most notably an improvement long anticipated by Arab developers, Arabic support.

In my review of CodeLobsterPHP IDE I listed not supporting Arabic as a con of this software, now I can proudly say that it supports Arabic, and I was asked by the company to test for Arabic support, here are the results:

Arabic language working on the code pane

Arabic language working on the preview pane

Arabic language working on the inspector pane

For a complete list of features and bug fixes on version 5.8 click here.

Many Arab developers like this IDE and they are interested in purchasing a license, the only thing stopping them is that CodeLobsterPHP Edition doesn’t support Arabic. Starting of version 5.8 that’s a thing of the past!

I listed in my review of CodeLobsterPHP Edition that it has a friendly and responsive community, check the request I posted asking for Arabic language support, they are as good as I said they were!

So here you have it!  It supports Arabic now!
As an Arab developer, is having Arabic support in the tools a problem? How do you feel when Arabic is supported on such an amazing IDE? Would you try it? It has a free version you know 😉
Let me here what you have to say, and expect an Arabic post about CodeLobsterPHP Edition soon!

Get Windows 10!

Hey there you guys. How are you keeping? I hope you are doing good!
I have an update to report!
And it’s regarding Windows 10!
I will be posting a special coverage about Windows 10 until the release date. Then some  hands on reviews..

I know it’s super late. And I admit that I only open Windows to defrag every Wednesday and to backup my Android phone 😛
And due to very slowInternet I couldn’t update my system for about a month or so. I managed to update it recently. And that’s where I came across this beauty! (This icon is legit! Not a virus or whatever!).

My heart was racing! I know I had nothing nice to say about Windows 10. But getting it for free was worth the excitement I had! After all Windows hold nearly 90% of the personal computer market share and Windows 10 is supposed to be that 90% !!
When I clicked the white icon this is what popped up!

How this free upgrade works

From here I was supposed to “Reserve” my license for the time to install. Meaning that 3 Gigabytes will be downloaded from the Internet to my device for the upgrade to complete. ( Will be breaking this pop-up in detail in following posts!)
I felt like a bucket of cold water was poured on me! With such poor Internet and often power cuts, how am I supposed to download the update? It took me 2 days to download the 8.1 upgrade!!
That’s for me to figure out and for you to find out later. As the update is supposed to install on the release date of Windows 10.
Did you get this icon / pop-up? If you did let me know in the comments section below.
And if you didn’t, don’t be frustrated! Just wait for my next post 😉
Have a nice day!!

Why do I like Linux better?

Today. After reading the Windows 10 update plans. I tried to put everything in perspective. And I realized something! I was blessed that I got to use and enjoy Linux! Linux is the true definition of freedom. It’s not owned by some company that controls it. It’s a community of people. You and I included!

Before I go any further on why I like Linux better. Let’s take a look at the competition. Shall we?

I’m a simple guy who wanted genuine software. So I bought Windows 8 (yay). And when the Upgrade to 8.1 was out. I updated to it.

It was awful. It’s filled with problems. But what can I do? It’s the latest craze! Even if I wanted Windows 7, I couldn’t get it. I won’t buy an OEM laptop with 7 installed just to relive the past!!

I couldn’t downgrade to Windows 7. Or use Windows XP after they ended the support. And no one would use Vista (at least when they are sober!)

I’m using Windows 8.1 because I had no choice. My back is against the wall.

Everyday I got a blue screen of death telling me to search the internet for one thing or the other! And some of it didn’t make any sense!! (An iPod related error and I don’t even own an iPod)!!!

I was so upset!! The system is Flawed and there is nothing I could do but to wait for the next update. We were told at the time it would be Windows 9.

Which means paying for Microsoft to fix a mistake they made!! Seriously?

Then came the savior, or so we were told. Windows 10. Which is supposed to carry us into the future. Sounds too much like Windows XP to me!

And if you see my last post about how original is Windows 10. You will see what I’m talking about!

Not a single word about Linux yet huh?

When I say that Linux is free. I don’t mean that it doesn’t cost money. I mean it’s absolutely free by all the meaning.

You are free to use, share, edit, sell. Try doing that with a Windows product!!

Use whatever Distro you like. Customize it the way you like. And use it for whatever you like. If you want you can donate. If you don’t want or can’t. Then it’s OK.

You’ve got many interfaces to choose from and hundreds of Distros to choose from. That’s free!!

You can use it in your home. In your school, for your business. Without restrictions. You can even make copies of it and sell it and no one would stop you.

While Microsoft attacked and condemned Linux with childish name calling, referring to it as a cancer. And who can forget the vigorous campaigns that Microsoft lead to destroy OpenOffice’s reputation as an alternativeto Microsoft Office?

Linux is more open minded and excepting. Notice that most users (if not all are Windows / Mac converts). And they are

I’m not going to talk about Mac at all. If you have one. May God help you!
My advice: Take this opportunity and think before Microsoft starts the exodus towards Windows 10. I’m I really free?

Do I have a choice? Can I simply refuse being controlled by Microsoft or Apple?

I hope this article gives you that perspective. Life is too short to spend on one OS or dealing with one company. Explore the world ofopen source. What’s there to lose?

Thanks for reading. Have a nice day 🙂
